The BBO Big Band have been nominated and short listed for Community Champions Award 2013 by Wycombe District Council. The nomination is in the category of best community group and is for raising over £330,000 for charity since the band’s inception in 1986.
Brian Greene, drummer and marketing manager for the band, said ” This is wonderful news and especially for members of the band who have been helping raise funds for local charities for nearly 3 decades. This really is no more recognition than they deserve. Ron Long and Tricia Bassett have been in the band over 20 years, with Ron himself being the sole remaining original member.”
The band will find out on the 26th September whether they will have won the 2013 award and will be represented on the evening by Hilary Spiers, who plays Trombone in the band. Ironically, Hilary will be the only member available to attend, as the band are playing at their regular month end concert at The Royal British Legion Hall in Marlow, raising money for MacMillan Nurses.
